I watch and wait as a long time friend struggles to reconcile doctrines. For 25 years he has wrestled with what are, in his mind, opposing ideas, trying to find common ground, trying to establish for himself a system of beliefs that he can understand and hold to. I have witnessed first hand the fruitless futility of such an exercise. But, I have witnessed something else also. When once a sinner is introduced to the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, all doctrinal difficulty is done away, and very quickly. You may try for years to harmonize various dogma and it may confuse you and frustrate you and never result in satisfaction. But if you ever meet the Savior of sinners, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, you will not only be satisfied, and have no other ambition than to know Him better, but you will have no difficulty whatsoever believing that He is such a Person as can and does save whom He will, when He will, as it pleases Him to do so. |
