Some Lesser Known Names Of The Lord Jesus Christ
1. Amen : These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God (Revelation 3:14). This name of our Lord Jesus speaks of the Saviour’s trustworthiness and faithfulness. All He speaks is true, all He reveals is certain and dependable, all He promises will most surely come to pass.
2. Bishop : For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls (1 Peter 2:25). That Christ is the Bishop of our never-dying souls points to His role as overseer, protector and guide of the elect of God committed into His charge in covenant purpose by God the Father, before the foundation of the world.
3. Only Potentate : Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords (1 Timothy 6:15). Our Lord is the mighty One with whom there is no equal. How weak our trust is when we worry and fret as though Our Great King’s power was somehow diminished.
4. Dayspring : Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us (Luke 1:78). Dawn brings light, warmth and hope. The fears of the night have passed away. The promise of a new day lays before us. Light shines on our path to enable our progress. In mercy God sent His dearly beloved Son to shine into our lives and guide us into the warmth of His love.
5. Messenger of the Covenant : Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts (Malachi 3:1). Christ, the delight of His Church and Bride has come to His temple. He is both the sum of the everlasting covenant of peace and its bearer to God’s people, who dwell in Him and He in them.
6. Rabboni : Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master (John 20:16). There is meaning here beyond mere respect in the astonished exclamation of Mary. She honours her Lord as highly as words will express as the significance of His wise and successful mission of redemption dawns upon her mind.
7. Refiner : And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver … (Malachi 3:2, 3). The Lord Jesus separates men from men, good from evil and cleanses His people by taking every impurity, every imperfection, every sin from them and carrying them all Himself. And though His people be brought through fires of trial, He walks with them in the furnace.
8. Sceptre : … a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth (Numbers 24:17). A sceptre is a rod or crook carried by a king and symbolic of his shepherding care of his people. It may also suggest a pen by which a judgment is written. So the Lord Jesus Christ shepherds His little flock and records every offence against them by their enemies in this world.
9. Tried Stone : Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation (Isaiah 28:16). Our Saviour is the solid rock upon which His people are fitly built together in the church. He is tried and found sufficient for every trouble, trial and threat. When floods rise to shake the building the tried and tested stone stands firm.

Those with need of healing
And the people followed Him; and He received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. ~ Luke 9:11

The Lord Jesus Christ went about healing everyone that had need of healing. He was and is Jehovah Rapha: the Lord that healeth thee. He healed all manner of diseases. He came to save and He came to heal. And He sent out His disciples with the same mission, saying: “Go, preach, saying, The kingdom of Heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils” (Matt.10:7-8). What a word this is to every preacher of the gospel.

In every congregation we face there is someone who ‘has need of healing.’ In every service there is someone who is sick and dying with the leprosy of sin; someone who is blind, halt, and lame; someone who is vexed with a devil; someone who is dead in trespasses and sins. While we cannot literally heal the sick, we do have a gospel that will heal the spiritually sick.

While we are told to reprove, rebuke, correct, and warn, we need to take care that we always try to comfort His people and heal them that have need of healing. May we always lift up Christ and Him crucified, as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, that every sin-sick soul may look and be healed. With every message we need to tell of Him Who will . . . remove the burden of the laboring and heavy laden; Who will lift the fallen, cheer the faint; Who will receive the prodigal; Who will forgive the forlorn; Who will comfort the sorrowing; Who will heal all that have need of healing.

DIVINE HEALING
Tommy Robbins
“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth all thy diseases.” Ps 103:2

This would be a perfect man … One that has no sin and no disease. I can think of only One that fits this description … The Lord Jesus Christ … The Godman. The Lord Jesus Christ became so much one with His people – He was made our sin and we are made His righteousness – that we are perfect in Him! Iniquities and disease are one and the same in this context. The “healers” of our day like to apply this to themselves and physical healing. But this is not the case. Granted, if we are healed physically it is the Lords doing. However, the healing spoken of and portrayed in the scriptures is the redeeming work of the great physician in the putting away of our sin and the imputation of His righteousness to us. Do I believe in Divine healing? Emphatically YES! I believe Christ heals His people eternally! “Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD’S hand double for all her sins” Isa 40:2.

“from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely. They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.” Jer.6:14
Nothing has changed. The false prophets are still declaring peace when there is no peace. Notice they heal the hurt of the people `slightly’. Can you think of one time the Lord Jesus performed a miracle of healing that was anything less than total? No. When Christ speaks peace there is reason for rejoicing. `My peace I leave you’. Why do people so gladly listen to a message of false peace? For the same reason people take pain medicine rather than undergo radical surgery. They want to just feel better rather than be put under the care of the Physician. Doctors who freely pass out anesthetics and placebos become popular and wealthy… but their patients die.

“SINNERS NEED A MIRACLE ”
Henry Mahan
If a man is near-sighted, he only needs corrective glasses; but if he is BLIND,  he needs a miracle only God can give– SIGHT!  If a man is sick, he only needs medicinal aid; but if he is DEAD,  he needs a miracle only God can give– LIFE!  If a man has a weak heart, perhaps changing his diet and habits will improve his condition; but if he has a STONY HEART,  a deceitful, desperately wicked heart, he needs this miracle-“a NEW HEART also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgments, and do them” (Ezek. 36:26-27).

Knowing these things to be true and knowing the desperate, depraved condition in which Adam’s fall has plunged all mankind, I believe, preach, and insist upon one solemn certain fact– “SALVATION IS OF THE LORD.” Let every son of Adam who reads these words come (like the leper in Matt. 8) to Christ and worship Him, saying, “LORD, IF THOU WILT, THOU CANST MAKE ME WHOLE!”–AND HE WILL!!

A name above every name
Genesis 41: 39-45

Pharaoh of Egypt, by the testimony of Joseph, perceived in Joseph the spirit of the living God. He saw in him such wisdom and goodness; such attitude and character that he appointed him “…Lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance. To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.” (Psalms 105: 21-22) The royal ring, the seal of the kingdom, was put on Josephs’ finger. He was to ride in the chariot behind Pharaoh and able men to go before him and cry for all to bow the knee. (Genesis 41: 42) To show his trust, his love, and his purpose of glory in Joseph the great king gave him a name above every name; Zaphnaphpaaneah (Zaf – nath – pa – a – ne – ah) There is no definition given anywhere which can fully expound this name. It is a name describing his character, his office, his authority, and his power. “Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: Only in the throne will I be greater than thou.” (Genesis 41:40)

Joseph is a wonderful type of Christ in whom the Father trusted all things. (Ephesians 1: 12) “He is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church; who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell. (Colossians 1: 17-19)

When the day of trouble came “the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: And Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; and what he saith to you, do. (Genesis 41: 55) In much the same way our Lord said in John 6: 37, “All that the Father giveth me sh0all come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. Here is the will of the Father that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day. (John 6: 40) May God be pleased to teach us what Pharaoh learned in his heart, “It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. (John 6: 63)

All of those who know the Lord Jesus Christ have only one message for hungry, perishing sinners: Look to Christ…”Look unto me, and be ye saved all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is none else. (Isaiah 45: 22)

Power To Send Messengers
Acts 8: 26, 27
Had the Gentile, idol teachers in Ethiopia taught the eunuch the truth?  Had the Pharisees who called on the name of Jehovah, but taught morality, taught him the one true Jehovah? Had those liberal thinkers, the Sadducees, who in their sentimental love accepted everyone who professed to believe the name Jehovah preached the truth to him?  Who did?  The only one who preached the truth concerning Christ and him crucified to such a poor sinner was the one whom God sent in Power (2 Tim. 3: 1-5.) It is the power of God which saves, equips and sends his messengers.  He does it by the gospel wherein he reveals Christ in whom the righteousness of God is manifest.  The Lord Jesus Christ saved Philip with the same gospel of Christ through the same power of the Holy Spirit with which he sent him to be a witness of Christ.  When the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to the right hand of the Father he gave gifts unto men for the perfecting of the saints, the work of the ministry, and the edifying of his body.  There are various measures of grace given to each member of his body but all believers are in one body, led by one Spirit, called in one hope.  There is one Lord, one faith, and one baptism.  Even as there is one God and Father above all, working through all and in all of his saints.  It is by his power that he saves, equips and sends his messengers to each of his redeemed, chosen vessels of mercy (Eph 4: 4-12.) How shall they hear without a preacher who preaches the true and living God? How shall he preach unless he is sent by him who said, “I will give you pastors after my own heart?”  Rest assured, as long as God has a people who must be called out from among this world he shall perform it by raising up messengers in truth and in spirit by his absolute sovereign power.
Clay Curtis.

Gracious Lord, our children see,
By thy mercy we are free;
But shall these, alas! Remain
Subjects still of Satan’s reign?
Israel’s young ones, when of old
Pharaoh threatened to withhold;
Then Thy messenger said, “No;
Let the children also go.”

When the angel of the Lord
Drawing forth his dreadful sword,
Slew, with an avenging hand,
All the firstborn of the land:
Then thy people’s doors he passed,
Where the bloody sign was placed;
Hear us, now, upon our knees,
Plead the blood of Christ for these!

Lord we tremble, for we know
How the fierce malicious foe,
Wheeling round his watchful flight,
Keeps them ever in his sight:
Spread Thy pinions, King of kings!
Hide them safe beneath Thy wings;
Lest the ravenous bird of prey
Stoop, and bear the brood away.
William Cowper.
